First new deal after more than 750 workers left Teamsters for CLAC
Screening officers at Calgary International Airport voted 71 per cent in favour of a settlement for a renewed collective agreement on Sept. 17 following eight months of negotiations between their union, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Allied Trades Union, CLAC Local 56, and Garda Security Screening.
In December 2018, more 750 workers employed by Garda voted to leave the Teamsters and join CLAC. The previous collective agreement with the Teamsters expired in March 2018, and this is the first contract negotiated with CLAC.
Highlights of the new contract, which expires March 31, 2022, include a 9.3 per cent wage increase for senior employees over the term of the agreement, upfront signing bonuses of $2,000 for full-time employees and $1,000 for part-time employees and increased employer pension and health benefits plan contributions, says the union.
