Wage increases, paid lunches part of new contract: UFCW
United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 832 members working at Aryzta in Winnipeg ended a two-week strike after ratifying a new contract that provides wage increases and better working conditions.
“The Aryzta members stood up for themselves to gain a better life,” says Jeff Traeger, UFCW Canada, Local 832 president.
The new collective agreement provides workers with a 1.8 per cent wage increase in retroactive pay, along with paid lunches and additional wage increases of 3.5 per cent over the term of the contract, said the union.
Prior to ratifying their new contract, the Aryzta members turned down the company's final offer after taking issue with the offered shift durations and proposed wage increases, according to UFCW.
UFCW Canada Local 832 represents more than 200 workers at Aryzta, which mass-produces baked goods for large and independent food retailers and convenience stores.
