700 CAW workers in Ontario to vote on tentative deal
Workers at a Coca Cola bottling facility in Ontario could be back on the job soon.
A tentative collective agreement was reached on July 18 between the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union and Coke, ending a three-week long strike by 700 employees at a facility in Brampton, Ont.
"We're very pleased to have reached a tentative deal with Coca Cola," said CAW national president Ken Lewenza. "This has been a difficult time for our bargaining committee as well as our members out on the picket line. We knew that this agreement would impact other Coke workers across the country and we fought back against serious concessions put forward by the employer."
All the key issues that forced the strike have been resolved, said Lewenza. The bargaining committee will be unanimously recommending the agreement at a ratification meeting scheduled for July 19 at 10 a.m.
Details of the agreement will be released upon ratification.
