Woman accuses star player of harassment
A woman formerly employed by the Toronto Argonauts has filed a case against the team and star quarterback Chad Kelly following her separation from the Canadian Football League (CFL) team.
The worker – a former strength and conditioning coach with the team – filed the case with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Wednesday.
The former employee claimed she was harassed by Kelly, whose behaviour is said to have started with unwanted romantic overtures and escalated into incidents where Kelly apparently used threatening language, according to a report from The Canadian Press.
The worker reported Kelly’s behaviour to the team, but the team did not act on it, according to a report from The Canadian Press posted on CP24.
General manager John Murphy said she “opened a can of worms that didn't need to be opened,” when she alleged Kelly’s behaviour, according to the report.
The Canadian Press did not detail the identity of the former Argos employee in the report.
Previously, a sales director accused of ignoring sexual misconduct was told by his employer to step away from the company amid the investigation.
Wrongful dismissal claim against Argos
The former employee is also suing the Toronto Argonauts team for wrongful dismissal, according to the report.
On Jan. 29, the team told the former employee her contract would no longer be renewed. She had joined the Argonauts in 2018 and said her contract had previously been continually renewed.
The complainant is seeking $80,000 from Kelly and a total of $85,714 from the Argonauts, according to the report.
Both Kelly and the team have not made any comments online about the case as of writing of this article.
