Efforts lead to a ‘healthier and more productive’ population
Three Canadian organizations were awarded for their commitment to health and wellness in the workplace, recently.
CGI (global, headquartered in Montréal), Devon Energy Canada (Calgary), and the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (Winnipeg) were each recognized at the GoodLife Fitness Health and Wellness Leadership Summit in Toronto.
All three winners have demonstrated significant efforts to foster cultures of workplace wellness through continuous improvement in fitness, activity, nutrition, education and employee behavioural change, said Goodlife CEO David Patchell-Evans.
“We want to congratulate these organizations for demonstrating innovative and carefully considered wellness programs that make a huge difference to employees, especially when it comes to fitness, nutrition, learning and healthier habits,” he said. “The goal is to recognize notable organizations like CGI, Devon and the Manitoba Teachers’ Society so others can learn and adopt similar practices, leading to a healthier and more productive Canadian population.”
The three companies were honoured for development of various programming promoting employee wellness.
Global IT company CGI, is proud to deliver a comprehensive corporate wellness program, called Oxygen, that reaches its 68,000 employees worldwide via its Health Portal.
Devon Energy invested in The Well, a 15,000-square-foot wellness and fitness facility, located in the Devon Tower in Calgary. This state-of-the-art facility is intended for employee use to help improve overall wellness, increase energy levels, reduce absenteeism, and effectively recruit and retain staff.
Finally, the Manitoba Teachers’ Society invested in its Balance workplace wellness program. The program is based on teacher input and strives to help teachers manage the stress of their day-to-day jobs, as well as find time to take care of themselves. Balance initiatives include chair massages, smoothie delivery, a regular magazine and learning opportunities on health and wellness topics.
