The Ontario Society for Training and Development (OSTD) has formed a partnership with the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) to offer the benefits of both associations to members in each organization, but the initial benefits are minimal.
At the moment, it costs the same amount to join both organizations separately as it does to purchase a joint membership.
In a media release, OSTD executive director Lynn Johnston says that one of the prime factors in the decision was that OSTD’s wanted to help add Canadian representation in ASTD’s development of global networks for T&D professionals.
Since the Canadian organization has just 1,700 members (compared with 7,000 members in ASTD), Canadian representation will be limited.
However, the move may help OSTD provide more Canadian research and other services which have not previously been available.
