Ontario and Manitoba led the way in growth, but B.C. and Nova Scotia saw fewer job posting than last year
The economy seems to be rebounding and employers are hiring more than they were last year at this time, according to a new report.
CareerAIM's February 2010 Canadian Job Market Report found the number of new job notices – an indicator of future hiring intentions – was up 20 per cent compared to February 2009. This is an increase of 34,000 job postings.
The February figures show a strengthening trend in year-over-year results that started December 2009 (3.4 per cent) and continued through January 2010 (2.1 per cent).
Most provinces showed improvement in the outlook for new jobs compared to February 2009.
Ontario (40.6 per cent) led followed by Manitoba (24.9 per cent) and Alberta (23.8 per cent).
However, the rate of job postings remained below the February 2009 levels in British Columbia down seven per cent), Newfoundland and Labrador (down 5.4 per cent), and Nova Scotia (down 2.7 per cent).
