But employment outlook stable across the country on average
More employers are looking to hire, according to a report from the Conference Board of Canada.
Following two consecutive declines, the Conference Board's Help-Wanted Index, which measures new job postings across 79 websites, rose 2.47 points to 103.1 in November.
While increases in job postings are generally followed by similar increases in employment in the following months, the recent declines in the index suggest that the slowdown in the labour market will continue for the next few months at least, said the Conference Board.
In fact, of the 27 cities studied, the near-term employment outlook is up in 11, stable in eight and down in eight, according to the Conference Board.
Some of the cities where the outlook is up include: Sudbury, Ont., St. John's, N.L., Montreal, Kingston, Ont., Thunder Bay, Ont.,
The employment outlook is stable in the following cities: Ottawa-Gatineau, Halifax, Toronto, Windsor, Ont., Kitchener, Ont., Winnipeg, Victoria and Vancouver.
