More than 230 nominations for list of 100
Microsoft and Google scored top spots on the Best Workplaces in Canada list by the Great Place to Work Institute.
One hundred companies made the list, which is published in the April 12, 2011, issue of The Globe and Mail. This year’s list is broken down into two sections: employers with more than 1,000 employees — which includes 16 best workplaces with Microsoft ranking first — and employers with between 50 and 999 employees — which includes 84 best workplaces with Google ranking first.
This year's list received more than 230 nominations.
The competition process is based on two criteria. Two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by more than 50,000 employees across the country who also have the opportunity to provide open-ended comments.
The remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization's culture, including an evaluation of human resources policies and procedures.
Together, both criteria provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie, said the Great Place to Work Institute.
