Province's year-over-year growth in full-time jobs outpaces national average
With 16,300 people entering the workforce over the past year, more Manitobans are working than ever before, says Minister of Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Peter Bjornson.
The number of Manitobans employed in September rose to 659,000, with more than half a million of them working full time, according to the latest Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey.
"Manitoba is a growth leader among the provinces. The province's labour market performance remains steady and strong," said Bjornson.
At 5.4 per cent, Manitoba's unemployment rate is the best in the country, he said.
Since September 2009, Manitoba has outpaced the national average with respect to labour force growth (2.5 per cent compared to 1.7 per cent), total jobs (2.5 per cent compared to 2.1 per cent) and full-time jobs (2.5 per cent compared to 1.5 per cent).
Also, in the last 12 months, Manitoba has created 9,600 private sector jobs, a growth rate of 2.2 per cent and above the national average of 1.6 per cent.
