CSTD receives $1.3 million to uncover the value of training
Skills development has been identified by the federal government as one of the most effective ways to boost the country’s flagging economic growth, but until now there have been no Canadian examples to demonstrate that the benefits of training outweigh the costs.
A new $1.3-million project, developed by the Canadian Society for Training and Development (CSTD) and funded by the federal government, will provide employers with credible evidence that training is crucial to business success and economic growth.
The CSTD program, Investing in People, will evaluate a number of innovative skills development programs in 12 Canadian organizations. The case studies produced will show Canadian employers how these programs positively impact both employee performance and bottom-line business results.
The CSTD will then develop develop a set of best practices based on the most successful of the training programs.
“Smaller organizations typically have few opportunities to learn about best practices in skills development. The second goal of this project is to help companies determine which training models and strategies are most economical and yield the most favourable business outcomes," said Lynette Gillis, president of Learning Designs Online and one of the project leads for Investing in People.
