City of Winnipeg hosts first job fair

'Speaker's corner' featured staff talking about unique career paths

The City of Winnipeg held its first ever job fair to target potential staff for the city's current and future recruitment needs.

The free, day-long carer symposium, held on Nov. 30, showcased the types of jobs available in all of the city's departments.

A "speaker's corner" featured 13 city staff, including the chief of policy and a city entomologist, who talked about their unique career paths.

Employees from a variety of areas were also on site to share information and answer questions about their professions and occupations.

Along with the traditional careers such as policing, firefighting and transit, the symposium highlighted careers not typically associated with a municipality including carpenters, mechanics, finance and information technology.

Representatives from the following city departments were on hand:

•Water and Waste

•Public Works

•Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service

•311

•Corporate Support Services

•Winnipeg Transit

•Winnipeg Police Service

•Assessment and Taxation

•Community Services

•Planning, Property and Development

•Winnipeg Fleet Management Agency
