Retailer pledges to change music as part of bid to improve employee morale
Turn off the Celine Dion. Please.
That’s the message coming from Walmart employees and, according to a Washington Post article, it has found a favourable ear with management.
The company is ditching a CD that has been apparently been on a heavy loop in many stores, and it featured tracks from Celine Dion and Justin Bieber. Even a puppet got in on mocking the music.
During a skit during a presentation to workers at a shareholder meeting, the puppet said: “One of my fellow associates recently developed a serious eye-tic from hearing Celine Dion’s greatest hits on loop in our stores.”
The disc is apparently being placed with Walmart Radio.
The change is part of a larger push to improve employee morale at the world’s largest retailer, which includes a move to raise wages to a minimum of US$10 per hour.
According to the Post it is also tweaking the temperature in stores and relaxing its dress code.
