Evaluated on benefits, training, career management
BC Hydro, Pepsico Canada and Unilever Canada are among Canada's Top Employers for Young People. The designation recognizes employers that offer the best workplaces and programs for young people just starting their careers and are leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations.
"The winning organizations recognize that younger employees are where the new ideas come from," said Kristina Leung, senior editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada, which manages the competition. "Making your workplace attractive to younger employees brings in new ways of thinking about your business model, both in terms of technology and how your organization delivers its key products and services."
Disruption and the ability to think differently about an organization's products and services are powerful qualities of younger employees, according to Richard Yerema, managing editor at Mediacorp.
"There's never been a more compelling time for organizations to bring young people into their organizations — it's an exciting time."
Employers were evaluated in terms of the programs they have to attract and retain younger workers, including benefits such as tuition assistance and co-op or work-study programs, mentorship and training programs, bonuses paid when employees complete certain courses or professional designations and career management programs.
