Better wages, more vacation in new deal: UFCW
United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 1991P members working at Résidence Bromont, a senior-living facility in Bromont, Que., signed a new union contract on Sept. 26 that provides better wages and more vacation, among other gains.
Under the new collective agreement, which runs until 2025, employees will see wage increases as high as 11.6 percent. It will also take fewer hours for members to reach the next level in the salary scale, says the union.
Other highlights of the agreement include a fourth vacation week after seven years of seniority, holidays with pay are equal to regularly paid days and recognition of previous experience in another comparable institution for wages, says UFCW.
The Résidence Bromont employees work as nurses, nursing assistants, care attendants, resident attendants, cooks, assistant cooks, dishwashers, waitresses, housekeepers and maintenance workers.
UFCW Local 1991P represents more than 5,600 members at more than 60 companies across the province of Quebec.
