Many worried about employment, expenses: survey
Two-thirds of Canadians (67 per cent) think that the Coronavirus situation will get worse in the next month, according to a survey conducted between March 24 and 2 by Nanos.
And more than half of people (57 per cent) reported checking the news several times a day, followed by 21 per cent who say once a day, 14 per cent said constantly, and five per cent said hourly, found the survey of 1,013 Canadians.
Nearly two-thirds of Canadians approve of the Canadian government’s response to the coronavirus situation.
To minimize bias, the survey's questions related to physical distancing and financial security asked respondents to comment about their neighbours, rather than themselves.
When it comes to employment, more than six-in-ten Canadians say their neighbours are worried (34 per cent) or "somewhat worried" (28 per cent) about losing their job due to COVID-19.
Almost two-thirds of Canadians think their neighbours are worried (33 per cent) or somewhat worried (32 per cent) about paying bills, while nearly three in 10 said their neighbours were somewhat not worried (14 per cent) or not worried (13 per cent), says Nanos.
About three in 10 say that their neighbours are strictly following guidelines on social distancing,
Meanwhile, another survey found that about one-fifth of employers are planning to cut staff while two-thirds are considering pay cuts amid the pandemic.
