Theme of the week is “Strength in Numbers”
Newfoundland and Labrador is reminding workers and employers about the risk of musculoskeletal injuries (MSI) through a prevention week taking place Sept. 19 to 23.
MSIs account for the majority of the province’s workplace lost time claims. In 2010, 66 per cent of lost time claims were for MSIs, according to the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Given these alarming numbers we should not be complacent and expect these injuries each year, but work together to eliminate them,” said the WSHCC.
The theme of the week, which has been taking place in the province for the last 10 years, is “Strength in Numbers.”
“This year’s theme has many facets to it,” according to the WSHCC. “It encourages all employers, employees and stakeholder groups to work together. There is strength in any endeavour if we combine our expertise and commitment.”
Another side of the theme focuses on the importance of strength and being strong both physically and mentally to face daily tasks, according to the commission.
