B.C.trucking industry launches moving and lifting safety campaign

Awareness push includes series of six videos

The Trucking Safety Council of British Columbia (TSCBC) has rolled out a new safety video as part of a series developed to educate on industry safety in the province.

“Preparing for work” is the first of six instructional videos.

The trucking profession involves more than just driving for long periods of time, according to the British Columbia Chiropractic Association (BCCA).

“In fact, manual handling of loads and goods is a major factor when it comes to injuries in this line of work,” a release from the BCCA. “TSCBC's latest video campaign hopes to mitigate these risks through education and reinforcement of lifting, carrying and handling principles. Safety in the workplace is at the heart of the program's messaging.”

The videos will be available online after they are released release through the TSCBC's website www.safetydrive.ca and YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/SafetyDrivenBC.

The videos were created in partnership with the Association of Canadian Ergonomists.

The BCCA said it is pleased to support the production of these unique assets as they address some of the most common risks associated with back and neck injuries.

“Musculoskeletal conditions account for one third of all medical office visits and hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation claims and lost productivity annually,” the BCCA said. “Education through programs such as the TSCBC's video series are key to preventing accidents and injury in the workplace.”
