But postings promoting ‘no vaccine required’ also see growth
By the end of 2022, half of postings for jobs in the U.S. that pay $100,000 or more will require COVID-19 vaccination from applicants, according to a report from career site Ladders.
“This is going to become a standard practice,” says CEO Marc Cenedella. “When you consider that outside of healthcare, it’s been rare to see any type of vaccine requirements in a job ad, this is especially stunning.”
By the end of November, nearly 11 per cent of all high-paying jobs required a COVID-19 vaccine, up from roughly six per cent in October. There was also a 100-per-cent increase in this regard from September to October.
“It’s a remarkably rapid change in what’s acceptable and what’s expected,” says Cenedella.
And the Canadian government announced it will make COVID-19 vaccination mandatory in all federally regulated workplaces.
‘Jabless’ jobs
However, there are also websites and job ads touting “no vaccine required.”
The website jablessjobs.work promotes itself as “an employment service with a mission to connect non-discriminatory employers with like-minded jobseekers. We aim to give people hope by empowering everyone to find financial security regardless of their personal choices.”
Its Facebook page describes it as “an avenue for connecting people with employers who do not support medical segregation.”
Jobs listed on the site are largely from the construction and trades sector but there are also postings for chefs, dentists, caregivers, massage therapists, hairdressers and childhood educators.
Similarly, the jobsite novaxmandate.org in the U.S. says it believes “that no right is more sacred than the right of every individual to the control of their own person, free from all restraint or interference of others. This job board is for open positions at companies who align with our values.”
While the site lists hundreds of jobs, many of them are also labelled “remote.”
A quick search of the job site Indeed shows just one job ad in Canada mentioning “no vaccine required,” but for the U.S., more than 300 jobs appear.
Some employers have penalized workers for failing to meet COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
Meanwhile, there are others who are rewarding workers who get the jabs.
