CAAT Pension Plan: Insights from a Best Place to Work for 2024

In this new video interview with Canadian HR Reporter, we sat down with Julie Giraldi, CHRO at CAAT Pension Plan, which was named one of Canada’s Best Places to Work for 2024. This award recognizes CAAT’s dedication to expanding retirement security across Canada while fostering an exceptional workplace culture.

Giraldi shared that CAAT’s mission to provide retirement security for all Canadians has been the driving force behind its rapid growth.

“We’ve doubled in size since 2018 and now serve over 100,000 members and 440 employers across 20 industries,” she explained. As CAAT has grown, so has its workforce, expanding from 84 employees to more than 500 in just six years.

At CAAT, the focus is on a total rewards philosophy that promotes long-term success without the pressures of short-term incentives.

“Our approach includes competitive salaries, comprehensive health benefits, and professional development opportunities,” said Giraldi. “It allows us to make decisions that are in the best interest of our members’ long-term future, without the distraction of bonuses or commissions.”

Recognition, wellbeing, leadership at CAAT

Recognition is a key pillar of CAAT’s workplace culture. In the interview with CHRR, Giraldi highlighted the organization’s 'kudos platform' and peer-to-peer 'Great Job Award' program, which fosters a sense of appreciation and camaraderie. “One of the best parts of my day is seeing the kudos from across the organization. It’s contagious and creates a high level of engagement,” she said.

Employee well-being is another area where CAAT excels. The organization’s comprehensive wellness program includes a $1,500 allowance that can be used for physical, mental, or financial wellness. “Our wellness initiatives are driven by employee feedback, and that’s why they’re so successful,” Giraldi explained.

Leadership development is also a priority. Through the Leader Mindset program and CAAT Academy, employees at all levels are given opportunities to grow. “Leadership at CAAT is a mindset, not just a title,” Giraldi emphasized.
