Employers have until March 31 to apply for funding from Jobs for Youth Program
Prince Edward Island is providing employers with wage support to create summer job opportunities for students in the province.
Through the Jobs for Youth Program, employers will receive funding to create summer jobs for students aged 15 to 29 who plan to return to school the following school year.
“This program provides valuable summer workers and wage assistance to community non-profit organizations and encourages private sector employers to create unique opportunities for Island students,” says Jamie Fox, minister of fisheries and communities. “As we continue to face uncertainty during COVID-19, this program gives our youth a chance to gain some hands-on experience in an industry of their interest.”
In 2020, Prince Edward Island announced several changes to the program.
The program covers 100 per cent of the minimum wage for non-profit and public sector employees, and 50 per cent of the minimum wage for private sector employees.
Employers will need to provide a clear description and details of the employment opportunity and students can apply for jobs directly to employers once they are posted online in early May at WorkPEI.
The deadline for application for employers is March 31, 2021. Meanwhile, students can begin applying for jobs through the program on the same date.
In December, the province launched a new support program to help workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.
