Average wage increase of 15.9 per cent: Unifor
Workers at Moncton Honda ratified a new collective agreement on May 3 between Unifor, Local 4501 and the dealership, with a vote of 70 per cent, said the union.
“We are relieved to have reached a four-year deal that brings wage increases and other gains to both automotive technicians and also service advisors,” said Christian Laforge, unit chair, Unifor Local 4501.
The wage increases range from nine to 35.1 per cent over the four-year agreement. The average increase is 15.9 per cent. The agreement also includes increases to tool and boot allowances, as well as an additional statutory holiday, said the union.
Unifor represents 22 technicians, accelerated technicians, lube techs, detailers, service advisors, parts persons, shuttle drivers and lot attendants who had been without an agreement since December 2017.
On April 4, 2018, a conciliator filed a report stating that negotiations had reached an impasse. Workers were in a legal strike position as of April 28, 2018, but chose to stay at the table to negotiate.
“Workers proudly wore Unifor pins in the workplace and showed solidarity with their bargaining committee, and it made a difference at the negotiating table,” said Kimberly Power, Unifor national representative.
