About 45 employees join 17,500 other members: Union
The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU), Local 447, welcomed Rod McGillivary Memorial Home employees into the provincial union on May 29.
“When these folks came to us, they were specifically looking for fairness, equality and most importantly consistency when it comes to their wages, shift assignments and safety in the workplace,” said Michelle Gawronsky, MGEU president.
About 45 new members employed as health care aides, dietary aides and cooks, housekeeping and laundry aides and Handi-Van drivers, became part of the MGEU’s 17,500 other health care members in Manitoba, said the union.
Rod McGillivary Memorial Home is a long-term care facility located in the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, according to MGEU.
