Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 1, 2017, to Aug. 31, 2020. Signed on April 20, 2018.
Paid holidays: 10 days.
Vacations with pay: Vacation pay will be added to each pay cheque.
Overtime: Time and one-half for work beyond hours described in duties specification agreement.
Medical benefits: Employer will pay Local 00610 $190 (previously $160) for each employee who is graduate teaching assistant as of Nov. 1, 2017, for health-care plan administered by Local 00610.
Sick leave: 10 hours per 140-hour appointment. Leave earned but not used will be carried over to next working term, maximum 15 hours at any point in time.
Pension: Employees may participate in pension plan for administrative staff.
Bereavement leave: 10 hours, 15 hours if extensive travel is required, for death in immediate family (parent, stepparent, foster-parent, brother, sister, spouse, child, child of spouse, stepchild, ward of employee, spouse’s parents, grandparent, grandchild). Employer may grant leave with pay for period greater than that provided above.
Probationary period: 1 academic term of employment.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 terms of employment or 12-month period from date of letter.
Safety shoes: $120 for employer-required safety shoes (yellow patch).
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide safety glasses or goggles.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 4.1% increase):
Graduate teaching assistant: $43.61 rising 3 steps to $45.83
Lump-sum payments: $200 upon ratification; $100 effective April 2019; $100 effective April 2020.
Editor’s notes: Parking passes: Employer will provide 50 parking passes for use by PSAC staff. Sex-reassignment surgery leave: Employee who provides certificate from medical practitioner confirming that employee requires leave of absence to undergo medical procedure(s) related to physical change from 1 gender to another will be granted maximum 2 months' leave. During first month, employee will be compensated at regular rate of pay. Committee service: On Sept. 1 of each year, employer will pay $75,000 (previously $70,000) to Local 00610 to assist in administration of collective agreement and service on committees, including all health and safety committees. Smoking cessation: $500 one-time for smoking cessation aids not covered by extended health-care plan or student-health services. GTA fund: Employer will provide $175,000 (previously $125,000) on Jan. 31. to address financial challenges faced by employees which may include but not be limited to: financial need, childcare expenses, education-related expenses, food-bank support.
