Telus, union reach tentative agreement

Ratification votes to be done by November

Telus and its union have reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year deal.

Next step for the nearly 11,000 members of the Telecommunications Workers Union (TWU) is to hold ratification votes.

"Following several months of very challenging negotiations, a tentative agreement has been reached on a proposed new contract between our members and Telus," said Lee Riggs, TWU national president. "Our members will have the opportunity to fully examine and consider all details of the tentative agreement before participating in ratification votes in coming weeks."

Ratification meetings will begin in mid-October and are expected to conclude in November. The dates and times of the ratification meetings will be determined in coming days, according to the union.

“The Telus and TWU negotiations teams have worked together to reach a fair agreement that effectively balances the needs of our team members, customers and shareholders,” said Darren Entwistle, president and CEO of Telus.

TWU represents approximately 10,800 Telus employees across the country. The tentative agreement calls for a five-year contract that would be in effect until the end of 2021.

Details of the tentative deal will not be publicly released until affected employees have the opportunity to review and vote on the agreement.
