New deal includes pension plan, wage increases, shift premium
More than 900 Sunwing flight attendants across the country have ratified a first agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4055, with 92 per cent of members voting in favour of the deal.
The new agreement includes a pension plan, improvements to the sick leave bank and the implementation of a shift premium for employees who work an extended duty day over 14 hours.
“Negotiations were not always easy, but we are proud to say we have met our objective,” said Mark Brancelj, president of CUPE Local 4055. “Working conditions at Sunwing have risen to meet standards common in the airline industry. The gains we have made bring us in line with every important airline in Canada.”
The term of the agreement will also provide wage increases from three to 12 per cent, Brancelj added.
The Sunwing flight attendants voted to join CUPE in March 2012.
