Mandate to walk out given on March 8: Unifor
Workers in the Truro and Amherst, Nova Scotia, branches of the Community Credit Union ratified a tentative agreement with their employer on May 14, narrowly avoiding a strike.
Bargaining had reached an impasse in recent weeks and a strike mandate was given by the membership of Unifor, Local 2107, but a breakthrough on May 13 during the last-chance conciliation meeting finally made a deal possible, said the union.
“The workers in this unit deserve kudos for their commitment to the bargaining process,” said Darlene McIvor, Unifor national representative. “It was a hard round of bargaining and though no one wanted to see a strike happen, they never once flinched.”
