Three-year deal includes 2.5 per cent wage increase: Union
Compass Minerals’ unionized employees at the Goderich Mine in Ontario have ratified a three-year collective bargaining agreement, ending an 11-week strike at the mine.
“We are very pleased that our employees have ratified this agreement, which aligns our operations with our investments in continuous mining and provides the flexibility to operate the mine effectively and more efficiently,” said Anthony Sepich, senior vice president, salt. “We look forward to our employees getting back to work and continuing to meet the salt needs of our customers.”
Unionized employees are expected to begin to return to work over the coming days.
The new deal includes a 2.5 per cent wage increase this year and next, and a three per cent increase in 2020, and maintains previous pension and benefits, according to Unifor.
The strike began April 27 when workers rejected a company proposal that included mandatory overtime, 16-hour shifts and 72-hour work weeks, said the union.
