Electricians, administrative staff negotiate first agreement after three years
About 25 unionized workers at New Brunswick’s Saint John Airport are back to work after going on strike on Aug. 3, 2011.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada, Local 60615 reached an agreement with the airport late Wednesday night after returning to the bargaining table the night prior.
Despite initial reports, the union decided to picket outside the airport entrance on Aug. 24, 2011. The demonstration coincided with the airport's open house.
Neither party has commented on the agreement, but a report by the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal indicates that wages were the stumbling block in negotiations.
The firefighters, electricians and administrative staff had been without a collective agreement since December 2008.
