Employees in legal strike position: OPG
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) announced today that its Power Workers’ Union (PWU) did not ratify the final offer presented on Dec. 13 to its members, leaving members in a strike position.
The previous collective agreement with the PWU expired on March 31, 2018.
The employer is disappointed that its offer was not ratified by PWU members. The offer provided PWU members with reasonable working conditions and benefits while recognizing the fiscal realities of the company and the Province of Ontario, said the company.
The company has very detailed contingency plans in place and is activating them immediately, said OPG.
OPG generates power for Ontario. More than 99 per cent of this power is free of smog and carbon emissions. OPG’s power is priced an average of 40 per cent lower than other generators, which helps moderate customer bills said the company.
