Group insurance, RRSP part of new package
UFCW Canada Local 500 members working at Les Spécialités Prodal in Saint-Bernard, Que., have agreed to their first contract.
The Prodal members make specialty pork products and deli meats for one of Quebec’s most well-known meat producers.
Members unanimously ratified the three-year contract, which includes progressive salary increases and is retroactive to Nov. 2016, according to the union.
The new collective agreement provides two wage increases: one on the worker’s anniversary date of hiring, and one on the Sept. 1 every year (applicable to all workers). As well, the employer will contribute $0.18 per hour per worker to the UFCW Quebec Dental Plan, and workers will have up to 80 perc ent of their dental care fees reimbursed, said the union.
Other highlights of the contract include:
- Three to four sick days and four to five weeks of vacation, depending on seniority
- Evening shift premiums for trainers, for workers assigned to clean up, and for team leaders
- A group insurance plan that the employer will contribute to
- A group RRSP plan for workers with five or more years of seniority
“We are very proud to announce that we have finalized the first collective agreement for the Prodal members in Saint Bernard,” said Antonio Filato, president of UFCW Canada Local 500.
