Three-year deal provides raises in each year of deal: KRGEU
Members of the Kativik Regional Government Employees Union (KRGEU) have a new collective agreement on Dec. 18.
A settlement agreement was reached last April, however since then, the employer had been trying to back track on this negotiated agreement. The KRG finally heard reason and decided to honor the April deal, said the union.
“The KRG (Kativik Regional Government) let go of all of their demands that were non-negotiable for us and we received salary increases of 2.5 per cent for the first three years of the agreement and two per cent for the last one, which is more than respectable. We also got retroactivity for our members and indexed per diems,” said Victor Mesher, KRGEU president.
The KRG was requesting the withdrawal of a letter of agreement permitting the organization to attract and retain a skilled workforce. Withdrawing this measure would have cost members $5,000 to $10,000 annually in lost wages. Fortunately, this request was abandoned by the KRG, said the union.
The Kativik Regional Government Employees Union (KRGEU) represents more than 250 workers in 14 communities throughout the Nunavik region, from Kuujjuaq to Salluit. The union is affiliated with the Fédération des employées et employés de services publics (FEESP–CSN).
