LTD, life insurance cuts proposed by employer: USW
The workers at IMP Aerostructures in Amherst, N.S., represented by the United Steelworkers union (USW), rejected the latest offer from the employer which called for dramatic cuts for senior workers.
“This offer, which the employer called their ‘final offer,’ was simply more of the unacceptable and frankly, insulting demands from the company,” said Richard Allen, USW, Local 4883 president.
The 204 workers at IMP Aerostructures make parts for the aerospace industry. However, the company is insisting that members who are 65 or older will have their life insurance coverage reduced by 50 per cent and have their long-term-disability benefits eliminated in addition to in essence stand-pat wages, said the union.
