149 workers first of kind in Alberta to join: HSAA
Health-care professionals working at one of Alberta’s largest primary-care networks voted to join Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) on Oct. 9.
“Employees of the Mosaic Primary Care Network in Calgary approached HSAA earlier this year asking if we could represent them,” said Mike Parker, HSAA president. “We’re delighted that we will now help these 149 employees in this new bargaining unit in their quest for fair wages and a better workplace.”
HSAA believes Mosaic to be the first unionized network in Alberta. It serves more than 300,000 Albertans at six locations in Calgary, said the union.
Established in 2003 through the primary-care initiative, Alberta now has 41 networks, involving more than 3,800 physicians and the full-time equivalent of more than 1,000 health- care providers, provide services to close to 3.6 million Albertans, said HSAA.
