Wages hiked, shift premiums boosted in deal: IAM
Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local Lodge 712 ratified their first collective agreement with Airbus in Montreal on June 17.
“Airbus now has labour peace for the next five years and now has the tools to be in a better position to sell the A220,” said David Chartrand, IAM Quebec coordinator.
The membership ratified the new agreement by a margin of 76 per cent, said the union.
“One of the key components of this agreement was the guarantee of 150 to 300 jobs on pre-final assembly-line work,” said Eric Rancourt, IAM District Lodge 11 business representative.
The five-year agreement provides wage increases of two per cent in each of the first, second and third year respectively and 2.5 per cent in year four and year five, said the union.
Other agreement highlights include job-security language enhancement, two shift-premium increases, two-year increase on recall rights from three to five years, LTD benefits paid bi-monthly instead of monthly and automatic conversion from complimentary workforce to Airbus within 30 days ratification of 45 members, said IAM.
The 1,200 employees manufacture the Airbus A220-100 A220-300 narrow-body airliners formerly known as the Bombardier C-Series. The CSALP (C-Series Aircraft Limited Partnership) is a partnership between Airbus, Bombardier and the Quebec government.
