Judgment in blond worker’s suit proves she isn’t dumb
Metalworker Andrea Eloisa da Silva decided she’d had it with her boss constantly referring to her as a “louras burras”, or dumb blonde, in front of her colleagues.
She sued him and won US $1,300 in moral damages. The judge hearing her case agreed that the use of the term “dumb blonde” violated da Silva’s dignity.
More importantly, the judge determined that da Silva was wrongfully dismissed, opening the door for another lawsuit and more damages. In order to try to close that door, da Silva’s boss, the owner of a metal factory 450 kms northwest of Rio de Janeiro, may appeal the decision.
