Award winner launching new DEI program in October
This year, Queen's University IRC was recognized for several categories as part of the Canadian HR Reporter's Readers’ Choice Awards for 2024 thanks to a number of initiatives that are already in place or are upcoming.
“Honestly, it means the world to us,” says Alison Darling, director of professional programs, Queen’s University IRC, in talking with Sarah Dobson, managing editor at Key Media, about the recognition.
Last year, the university won the award for their work on labour relations. This year, they earned awards for their efforts in the areas of labour relations, HR certificate programs, executive development, and professional development.
“Those are all of the aspects of our business. And so for the team, for our facilitators for the university, it really does mean the world to us. Just to show that yes, what we're doing is appreciated; it is making a difference,” says Darling.

The survey for the Readers’ Choice Awards 2024 took place between Feb. 15 and March 8, 2024. Canadian HR Reporter opened up nominations to create an impressive list of vendors and suppliers in the HR community from across the country, based on the team’s knowledge and additional research within each area.
And Queen’s University IRC’s work is not done. This October, they will be launching a new EDI program.
“The program really focuses on deepening participants’ awareness of influencing factors related to EDI, and then working with our participants so that they can construct a really robust EDI organizational strategy using planning frameworks and then also look at ways to measure success,” said Darling.
The program is designed with the view of “what can people take away from this program to immediately make a difference and lasting difference in their organizations,” she says.
