Which cities in Canada have the best work-life balance?

When it comes to work-life balance, no Canadian city does better than Ottawa, according to a recent report.

Ottawa ranks fifth among the cities when it comes to this matter, according to Blueground.

“This index is not designed to be a city livability index, nor is it intended to highlight the best cities to work in; instead, it aims to be a guideline for cities to benchmark their ability to support the fulfillment of residents’ lives by improving the aspects of life that help relieve work-related stress and intensity,” says Blueground, which helps workers relocate to new cities.

The index looked at 16 different factors:

  • Overall work-life balance score based on total working hours, time spent commuting, and vacation days taken
  • The extent residents of the city receive equal treatment, factoring in their access to state-funded health and welfare programs, as well as institutional support for gender equality and friendliness toward the LGBT+ community
  • City’s livability score based on citizens’ overall happiness, safety and access to wellness and leisure venues

The company used the following legend to give out scores in different aspects of the ranking system:

Canada, overall, took the ninth spot in a previous poll ranking the best countries in the world when it comes to work-life balance.

A previous IWG report named Toronto – along with Barcelona – as the top city in the world for workations.
