'This is one way of saying thank you to our vaccinated employees for keeping each other and our workplaces safe'
New Brunswick employer JD Irving is providing employees with extra cash for being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
More than 3,000 workers in 45 locations qualify to receive a $150 vaccination bonus as part of the incentive program.
“We know that vaccines are proven to be a safe and effective way of protecting ourselves and others from infection and the worst impacts of COVID-19 including hospitalization and death,” says Jim Ramsay, JD Irving vice-president of health and safety.
“We encourage everyone to receive the vaccine. This is one way of saying thank you to our vaccinated employees for keeping each other and our workplaces safe while continuing to provide the products and services that our customers value.”
Employees qualify if they can show proof of vaccination by Oct. 29. JD Irving is paying out the incentive to locations that are at least 95 per cent vaccinated.
Other employers giving out vax incentives include DLGL Technologies – which gave out $2,500 for two shots – and Manulife.
JD Irving is taking an innovative approach to reward staff, says Jeff McCanna, right path advisor at Selectpath Benefits and Financial.
“Congratulations on setting a great example for other employers.”
Money can make a difference when it comes to encouraging people to take the vaccine, found an earlier survey.
