Few decision-makers using GenAI in Canada: report

With more and more employers adopting the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), strategy and data analytics decision makers working for the biggest employers are the ones making the transition the most within their organization.

Globally, those who are employed by companies with 10,000 employees are the most likely to make the adoption, reports data analytics company SAS.

The adoption rate drops as the number of employees decreases.

More than 90 per cent of the Canadian workforce could have their working hours reduced by 10 per cent with the adoption of large language models (LLM) in the workplace by 2034, according to a previous report. LLM is the technology used for AI applications such as ChatGPT.

Also, four in 10 executives predict that AI will deliver gains of more than 30 per cent in productivity, according to a previous Mercer report.

By job title, however, few of these leaders are making the adoption, based on SAS’s survey of 1,600 decision-makers for GenAI strategy or data analytics globally, including 100 respondents in Canada.

The ones most likely to make the adoption are data managers, IT directors and heads of IT. Meanwhile, the least likely to make the adoption are chief technical officers (CTOs), chief digital officers (CDOs) and digital transformation leads.

Ottawa is investing $2.4 billion to support AI adoption in Canada. And under Budget 2024, the federal government is investing $50 million over four years to provide skills training for workers in sectors disrupted by AI.

By integrating generative AI into the decision-making process, organizations can receive enhanced decision support, according to TeamLease Digital.

“The system can offer recommendations based on a holistic analysis of historical data, current trends, and future predictions, empowering decision-makers with valuable insights,” the company says via LinkedIn.

“Data analytics has evolved significantly over the years, however, the application of gen AI has enhanced its performance manifold. It is giving a competitive edge to businesses as several sectors are dealing in huge datasets on an everyday basis. It helps the users to analyze and interpret data with unmatched precision and save time and resources of the business.”
